The WWE finally has a chance to do something huge with Dolph Ziggler.

The two-time World Heavyweight Champion has been held down throughout the years, but now that it appears his storyline with Lana and Rusev is about to come to an end, the WWE has a golden opportunity it shouldn't squander.

Lana Should Can Russian Act, Show True Colors

The company has teased an altercation between Ziggler and super babyface John Cena, and Monday night's United States Championship match should be the start of something great.

Cena defeated "The Showoff" in a tremendous matchup, but the WWE has been teasing something building between the two for weeks. It all began with the "Total Divas" finale when Ziggler made a pass at his ex-girlfriend Nikki Bella, who is now dating the "Cenation" leader. The WWE then teased a confrontation last week before having the two stars face-off on Monday Night RAW this week.

How John Cena, Dolph Ziggler Stack Up

By now, it's become well-known that Cena intends to go on hiatus from the WWE after Hell in a Cell and it appears he won't be back until after Christmas, meaning a long-term feud with Ziggler (which may involve Bella) will have to wait. Though Cena's schedule won't allow for an instant feud with the four-time Intercontinental Champion, it doesn't mean the WWE can't fire the first salvo prior to his leave of absence.

It's high time the WWE gives Ziggler, one of its best in-ring talents who often gets into trouble because of his mouth, a high-profile feud with the likes of Cena. The WWE can easily jump-start a storyline and explain Cena's absence in one shot if it has the Superstar with the golden locks turn heel on the face of the franchise.

If Ziggler savagely attacks Cena to put him out of action in kayfabe, it could kick-off a new character twist for him. This would see him grow as one of the top heels in Cena's absence, leading into a feud between the two once the 15-time World Heavyweight Champion is ready to return for some babyface revenge.

If done right, the rivalry could last all the way to WrestleMania, finally giving Ziggler a big match on the card and possibly catapulting the United States Championship into Match of the Year territory.

From there, Ziggler can get red-hot and win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, finally getting a chance to have a serious run with the gold.

It's time for "The Showoff" to become the show-stopper by turning heel on the face of the franchise.
