Andy Reid has a history of giving reputation-damaged players a second chance. The Chiefs have a history of a former player shooting his girlfriend and then himself in a 2012 murder-suicide.

And that's why Ray Rice has no shot of filling the void left by injured running back Jamaal Charles, Pro Football Talk reports.

Greg Hardy's Comments Finally Put Ray Rice In A Positive Light

"Even though they're bringing Ben Tate in for a workout, when Chiefs coach Andy Reid was asked about possible replacements for injured running back Jamaal Charles Monday, he stressed all his in-house options," Pro Football Talk wrote. "And while Reid is a known giver of second chances from his days with Philadelphia and Michael Vick, it seems extremely unlikely that he'd push the Ray Rice button in Kansas City."

In 2012, Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend in front of her mother, then went to Arrowhead Stadium, where Kansas City staff attempted to calm him down.

But when police arrived on the scene, Belcher, then 25 years old, shot himself. Belcher and his girlfriend had a 3-month-old daughter at the time.

"... That kind of backdrop might make it hard to sell a redemption story like Rice's," Pro Football Talk reported. "Just like when the Panthers (who once employed Rae Carruth) let (Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy walk into free agency without so much as an offer, the scars of the past often make teams more hesitant, even though Reid wasn't there for the Belcher incident."

Hardy returned to the Cowboys after a four-game suspension for a violation of league rules. He was convicted of physical abuse of an ex-girlfriend. The charges were later dropped when the ex-girlfriend refused to proceed with the case.

While Hardy made some controversial remarks without any contrition upon his return, Rice has apologized repeatedly and has become an advocate for domestic violence awareness.

"While many have said they'd like to see him get a second chance, it's clear they all want it to be somewhere else," Pro Football Talk indicated.
