After the agony of being a Mets fan caused a WFAN radio caller to cry to host Mike Francesa, the "sports pope" gave him the gift of a lifetime -- after first giving him the cold shoulder.
On Sunday, a caller known as "Will from Queens" got emotional when discussing the incident between Ruben Tejada and Chase Utley in Game 2. He also began to cry when talking about what Matt Harvey needs to do in his playoff debut Monday night to give the Mets a 2-1 series edge, thus becoming known as "Crying Will."
Matt Harvey Has Built-In Excuse If He Struggles
Will called the Utley play "dirty" and his voice began to whimper as his emotions got the best of him.
"[The play] bothers me as a Met fan, but Harvey better step up tomorrow night," Will said Sunday, his voice continuing to grow weak. "I am disgusted with him, but this is his one chance. Put the team on the shoulders and then you have my faith back in you."
Should Yankees Fire Joe Girardi?
A flustered Francesa was shocked about how emotional Will got.
"Will, are you crying?" he asked. "You're not really crying over this I hope. Jeez. You got a little emotional over there, Will."
Francesa added that it "got a little bit scary" and that it would be a "tough day" to spend with the caller.
Turns out, now Francesa will be spending the day -- or at least an evening -- with Will as he invited him to sit with him behind home plate when Citi Field plays host to a postseason game for the first time since opening its doors in 2009.
On Monday, Francesa brought Will back on and gave him the opportunity of a lifetime.
After Will said the tickets for the game cost too much, Francesa gave him the generous honor of sitting with him.
"You can be there at 8 o'clock and you can sit with me for the game," Francesa said. "...You'll be my guest and you'll sit with me at the game."
Francesa just has one rule: "Don't cry again now, Will!" he said.
