Baseball and superstition go hand in hand like two ignorant parties unwilling to accept responsibility.
The Red Sox had the “Curse of the Bambino,” the Indians have the “Curse of Rocky Colavito,” and the White Sox had the “Curse of Shoeless Joe.” All three prevented -- or are currently preventing -- another generation of grown men from succeeding on the diamond.
Jake Arrieta's Not Worthy Of 'Father Of The Year'
The Cubs have an outlandish one of their own, the “Curse of The Billy Goat.”
Somehow, the owner of a bar who declared the Cubs will win no more is solely responsible for a World Series drought that dates back to 1908. Unfortunately -- if you’re childish enough to believe in the curse -- Stephen Colbert poked the baseball gods with an iron pole Thursday night.
Arrieta Over Lester Was A No Brainer
No need to worry, Cubs fans.
Colbert didn’t actually “jinx” your team because no superstitious power could ever replace the fact that your team has been garbage for 107 years.
Good for the #Cubs. It's hard to suck for 107 years.

It wasn’t Billy Sianis that traded Dennis Eckersley in1987. He somehow didn’t manage to sneak into the offices to trade Lou Brock, Jack Spring and Paul Toth for Ernie Broglio, Doug Clemens and Bobby Shantz.
And it surely wasn’t Sianis who waited six years to sign the team’s first black player after Jackie Robinson made his debut in 1947.
The list goes on: Danny Jackson, the Nomar Garciaparra trade, Alfonso Soriano’s $136 million deal.
Those were the decisions of a poorly run franchise for over a century, not a goat. And even if by some miracle the Cubs do manage to win the World Series in 2015, it’ll be because of the structure put in place by Theo Epstein, not because Colbert kicked out a goat.
