In 2004, a potential dream match between Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar became a real-life nightmare.

The WWE booked the two behemoths to clash at WrestleMania XX inside Madison Square Garden, but the match was an utter disaster. Now, it's time for the company to get a mulligan.

The fans at the World's Most Famous Arena weren't dumb that night in New York City. They were aware that Goldberg was hanging up his wrestling boots for the time being and that "The Beast" was on his way to trying out for the NFL and eventually settling for a rewarding career in UFC.

The fans jeered both combatants mercilessly and only seemed to care about the bout's special guest referee, WWE Hall of Famer "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

The clash finally came to an end after the Superstars grappled with the audience more than each other. The former WCW Heavyweight Champion won the bout after 13 excruciating minutes, but no one cared as both men left the WWE shortly thereafter, Goldberg for good and Lesnar for eight years.

Now that "The Beast" is back and has some tremendous momentum on his side, it's time for Goldberg to return to the ring and course correct the rivalry between the two. Goldberg came close to re-joining the WWE in the past, but couldn't come to terms on an agreement with Triple H. The WWE has a big money rematch on its hands, and it should strike by working something out.

With Goldberg turning 49 later this year, it's time for him to battle Paul Heyman's client, the 38-year-old Lesnar, in a match that could actually live up to the hype that the 2004 encounter failed to reach. The one-time WWE World Champion has said in the past that he still talks to Lesnar and would love to wrestle him again, but it appears there could be some bad blood between him and WWE creative.

"The fact is, behind the scenes, there's stuff that goes on that's bush-league," Goldberg told RollingStone.com in June. "It's laughable. So to see a guy like Brock do what he's doing, are you kidding me? I admire him whole-heartedly, and I like to think that I taught him a thing or two. I'd love to wrestle Brock again."

Goldberg would love to wrestle Lesnar again. It's up to the WWE to make it happen.
