Ryan Tannehill is in denial, and it has nothing to do with Wednesday’s comments.

The Dolphins QB responded to allegations that he made disparaging remarks to his scout-team defense during last weekend’s practice in London.

Eagles Fans Still Believe They’re Paying The Price For Cutting Tebow

"It was a day before the [Jets] game, and I didn't feel we were getting the looks that we needed before a game, so I got upset," Tannehill said, per ESPN. "But I said nothing about a paycheck or anything close to that. I know everyone in this building works hard every single day, so I respect that and I would never take a shot like that.

"Am I happy about everything I said? No. [Am I happy] the things went down the way they did? No. I hold myself to a higher standard than to take a shot at something like that."

Teams That Should Give Tim Tebow A Chance In 2015

It’s time Tannehill holds himself to a higher standard under center.

Regression is the narrative surrounding his right arm in 2015, completing just 56.7 percent of his passes for 1,080 yards and seven TDs. Add five INTs, and it’s clear Tannehill is failing to live up to his $96 million contract.

Now with Joe Philbin out as the head coach, owner Stephen Ross will need a new scapegoat should the Dolphins continue to fail. It could be Tannehill who sees himself collecting a “scout-team paycheck” in 2016, opening the door for another QB vacancy in the NFL.

Another QB vacancy Tim Tebow’s name will undoubtedly be linked to.

At this point -- looking at another under .500 season -- the Dolphins might be desperate enough to do it.
