Peyton Manning News: Columbus Dispatch Accidentally Credits John Elway For Denver Broncos Victory Instead Of The Actual Quarterback [PHOTO]

Peyton Manning tied a record by connecting with his Denver Broncos' teammates on seven touchdown passes in Thursday's 49-27 victory over the 2013 Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens last night, but it was John Elway who received credit from The Columbus Dispatch in the paper on Friday.

Columbus Dispatch editor Ben Marrison tweeted a response to the flub on Twitter:

Elway, 53, last played in the NFL in 1998 and is currently the executive vice president of football operations for Denver. Elway wasn't even that close to the action, as he watched Manning's amazing game unfold from a suite high above Sports Authority Field at Mile High. While Elway didn't so much as touch a football last night, the paper credited him for the seven touchdown barrage.

Manning was instrumental in leading the Broncos (1-0) to an impressive victory over the Ravens (0-1), who topped Denver in the divisional round of last year's playoffs with a crushing 38-35 overtime win in the same stadium just a few months ago. Baltimore went on to eventually defeat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl earlier this year, while Denver waited patiently for a chance to avenge the loss.

That chance was last night, and Manning was the driving force behind that revenge, though those who read the Columbus Dispatch this morning would have thought Elway made a startling comeback.

Elway played for 16 seasons in the NFL, appearing in 234 games and going 4,123-for-7,250 for 51,475 yards with 300 touchdowns and 226 interceptions. Elway retired almost 15 years ago, and is a nine-time Pro Bowler, two-time Super Bowl champion and was honored into the Hall of Fame in 2004.

Manning, who will undoubtedly be a Hall of Famer someday, has had an impressive of a career as well. Manning won the Super Bowl in 2007 with the Indianapolis Colts and has appeared in 12 Pro Bowls. Manning, for his career, which started in 1998, the same season that Elway called his last, has appeared in 208 games and is 5,109-for-7,835 for 59,949 yards with 443 touchdowns and 209 interceptions.

The newspaper headline gaffe bears credence to the term "you can't believe everything you read."
