As if Chip Kelly needed more criticism heaped upon him.

Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor, arguably the NFL's most surprising player through the first quarter of the 2015 season, actually had hoped to latch on with the Eagles in the offseason, NFL.com reported.

Tim Tebow Had More Success Than Jimmy Clausen With Bears Coach John Fox

"One place he wanted to go, which featured an offense deemed perfect for him, was the Eagles," NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported. "He asked the Eagles to consider him. However, they did not, eventually signing Tim Tebow instead."

Of course, Taylor might not have supplanted Philadelphia starter Sam Bradford, whom the Eagles acquired in a trade with the Rams in March. In fact, there's no guarantee Taylor would even be with the Eagles right now.

Tim Tebow Won't Commit To Another NFL Tryout

Tebow had seemingly made a strong case to make the roster with his play during training camp. Kelly even traded third-string quarterback Matt Barkley to the Cardinals, presumably to elevate Tebow to third-string status.

Instead, Kelly, the Eagles coach, cut Tebow the week before the season opener and has since signed two quarterbacks not named Tebow to Philadelphia's practice squad.

All Taylor has done is throw for 988 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He has a 71.7 completion percentage in leading the Bills to their 2-2 start.

Taylor was as backup with the Ravens last season but left the team because he wanted to go somewhere where the starting position was up for grabs. NFL.com reported that Taylor could've landed in Denver in the offseason but didn't want another understudy role, even for the great Peyton Manning.

If it's any consolation to Kelly, Tebow still is available if the coach gets in a pinch.
