Adrien “The Problem” Broner got back on a winning track Saturday night with a one-sided, and actually impressive, performance against Khabib Allakhverdiev for the vacant WBA junior middleweight title. Broner improved to 31-2 with his 12th-round TKO win, and has myriad options in a stacked 140-pound weight class moving forward.

Here are three opponents fans would love to see.

Shawn Porter Might Have Beaten Humility Into Adrien Broner

Viktor Postol (28-0, 12 KO)

Postol also fought Saturday, shocking many fans by knocking out Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse in the 10th round of their bout for the vacant WBC title. Postol had been the WBC mandatory challenger for a year and a half, but could never secure a fight date with Danny “Swift” Garcia, a fighter who is often accused of cherry-picking opponents. After his KO of Matthysse, Postol’s profile is sure to rise.

He fights on HBO, so fans shouldn’t get too excited about a possible Broner fight. Postol has a big height advantage over Broner, excellent technique, and devastating knockouts in two of his last three fights. It’s the kind of fight a big name like Broner avoids in this era of boxing.

Lucas Matthysse (37-4, 34 KO)

Matthysse may have lost on Saturday, but he shouldn’t be docked too much for it. Postol wasn’t a household name, but hardcore boxing fans knew his name. Now that Matthysse has lost, and been knocked out, he may seem more vulnerable.

Broner has been linked to Matthysse since last year; Broner wound up fighting on the world premier of Premier Boxing Champions against John Molina Jr., whom Matthysse knocked out, instead.

Matthysse is a true action fighter, who pushes the pace and will attack Broner, while Broner likes to counter and potshot. Stylistically it would be excellent, but once again, boxing politics will interfere.

Lamont Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KO)

If we want to think about this realistically, a bout vs. Peterson shouldn’t be too difficult to make. Peterson is a technically sound fighter, who has decent power, but not enough to worry Al Haymon about Broner getting knocked out. Peterson is a busy fighter, and he would force Broner to be active.

If Broner were able to defeat a very solid contender at 140 pounds, it would legitimize his champion status, and help rebuild him into a potential pay-per-view attraction once again.
