49ers News: Nnamdi Asomugha Offers Teammate Anthony Dixon $24K For His Number 24, But Was Turned Down

How much is San Francisco 49ers running back Anthony Dixon's '24' on his jersey worth to him? An exact number is uncertain but it's definitely more than $24,000

Dixon was offered $24K by new teammate Nnamdi Asomugha for the number, but Dixon turned it down, according to CSNBayArea.com.

"We tried to go $24K for 24, but I told him, 'No, I'm going to keep my 24,'" Dixon told CSNBayArea.com on Tuesday.

Dixon wasn't ready to give up his number despite Asomugha offering him 24,000 reasons to.

"I worked hard to get that number when I first got here," Dixon told the website. "I worked hard to get it off somebody else. I've been No. 24 since high school and college."

Dixon has donned the number 24 on his Niners jersey since the team selected him in 2010 in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.

Asomugha, who was released by the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, wore the number 24 during his two disappointing years with the team. Asomugha, who was once mentioned in the conversation of elite cornerbacks with the likes of Darrelle Revis, was rumored to not make the team out of training camp before he was able to nab the No.3 cornerback spot, but he couldn't grapple away the number from Dixon and will wear 28 on his uniform.

"When he first got here, he asked me what I thought of him wearing No. 24, and I said, 'Well, you can wear it,' Dixon told the site."I wanted him to look good. He asked if he could wear it so he doesn't look like a bum. Every other number was already taken."

The 49ers open their season with a Week 1 matchup against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, and are looking to build off a solid 2012 where the team finished first in the NFC West with an 11-4 record before falling to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl.

Asomugha had just one interception with the Eagles last year while Dixon had two touchdowns and rushed for 78 yards on 21 carries for San Francisco in his third NFL season.
