Let's be honest, the Yankees faithful just isn't what it used to be -- and it's reached embarrassing levels.

It's never hard to hate on another fan base, but supporters of the Bronx Bombers often make it even easier. Some of them by being obnoxious and loud, others by being able to rattle off the fact that the club has 27 World Series titles, but failing to name the go-to starting lineup.

Astros On Verge Of Collapse

While that's a terrible trend, what happened Tuesday night is even worse.

There were the Yankees, able to clinch a playoff spot by virtue of simply winning the game or having the Twins lose and either the Rangers or Angels also fall. And the fans were so excited to see their team clinch that they didn't even show up.

Of course, as is common place in Yankee land these days, nothing went right. New York lost its game to lowly Boston in a 10-4 blowout, while Mother Nature wiped out the Twins contest and the Rangers and Angels both won.

Yes, it was 6-0 in the first inning, but it's unacceptable to count your team out before it even gets a chance to hit.

Long gone are the glory years of 1996-2000, but with their team in position to end a two-year playoff drought -- which in Yankees terms is equivalent to a millennium -- you could hear a pin drop in the stadium even before the deficit became insurmountable.

As for the fans that did show up, one of them summed up the night in comedic fashion.

One supporter with amazing seats got multiple chances to catch a ball and epically failed on it, THREE times (!!!). The first fail was a tough play that bounced off his hands, but from there it got worse. The second ball was a grounder that hit him in the chest when he tried to snag it.

The third one, with this happening in front of his girlfriend no less, saw the ball boy under-hand toss a baseball to him, only for it to bounce off his face.

On Tuesday, the man, the Yankees and their fan base dropped the ball.
