Gennady “GGG” Golovkin is the current knockout king of boxing, but on Oct. 17 he will step in the ring vs. IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux, a man with more knockouts than he does.

Golovkin is undefeated (33-0, 30 KO) and has knocked out 20 consecutive opponents. Lemieux’s record has two blemishes on it (34-2, 31 KO), but one more knockout. Lemieux will carry a nine-fight winning streak into this unification bout – Golovkin is the WBA and IBO champion – and a great deal of confidence as well.

“We’re coming in this fight ready. The guns are loaded,” Lemieux said to BoxingScene. The Canadian believes he has the power to rock GGG, and does not believe Golovkin has been tested by any fighter with Lemieux’s power.

“I’ve seen him fight a lot of times also, so I know that he likes to give a great show. But let’s see how he reacts when he’s faced with similar adversity. He’s a very strong fighter but let’s see how he reacts when he gets hit also. It’s going to be a tough fight. It’s going to be a war,” Lemieux said.

Golovkin-Lemieux Broke MSG Pre-Sale Records

Golovkin said he has studied Lemieux extensively, and is prepared for the knockout potential. “I have fought big punchers in the past and I know what I need to do,” Golovkin said.

His trainer Abel Sanchez has also gone on record saying Curtis Stevens, whom Golovkin beat by TKO in 2013, was a more dangerous puncher.

"Curtis was a harder puncher because he's a snappy puncher. David is more of a George Foreman, thudding kind of puncher. You have to be standing in front of him, with your hands down, for David to hurt you."
