The 49ers have no plans to bench Colin Kaepernick. Really, they have no choice.

San Francisco coach Jim Tomsula said Monday he has not entertained thoughts of going in another direction at quarterback, Yahoo Sports reported.

"I've had no thoughts of him not being our quarterback," Tomsula said. "He's our quarterback."

Kaepernick finished with a 16.7 quarterback rating after completing 9-of-19 passes for 67 yards in the Niners' 47-7 loss to the Cardinals a day earlier. The Nevada alum threw two touchdown passes -- unfortunately both were on Arizona interception returns.

Coach Jim Tomsula Says Colin Kaepernick QB Comparisons Unfair

Yahoo Sports included a telling stat about Kaepernick's fall from grace since leading the 49ers to the NFC title game during the 2013 season.

"In his last 13 games, Kaepernick has more than one touchdown pass just two times, has posted a rating of more than 100 twice in that stretch, and more than 300 yards only once -- and he did all three in Week 2 at the Pittsburgh Steelers thanks to a huge helping of garbage-time numbers," according to Yahoo Sports. "The 49ers trailed 29-3 going into the fourth quarter of that game. Take away that contest and its empty calories, and it has been a long time since Kaepernick had an impressive performance."

Even Ron Jaworski, who Yahoo Sports reported said that Kaepernick could become one of the best quarterbacks ever in the NFL, seems to have jumped off the bandwagon.

The alternative for the 49ers is Jaguars reject Blaine Gabbert, which means Kaepernick should be given every chance to improve his performance. But because of the team-friendly contract Kaepernick signed during the summer of 2014, San Francisco can cut him before April 1 next year and not owe the quarterback any of the remaining money from his seven-year, $126 million deal.

Kaepernick has 13 games left to prove that he's still a capable starting quarterback in the NFL.
