Tired of the Yankees buying as they please, only to inevitably come up short were previous generations haven’t? Then stop reading.

Bryce Harper’s future in New York is inevitable. Start getting used to it now.

Yoenis Cespedes The Real NL MVP, Not Harper

Scott Boras -- Harper’s agent -- appeared on ESPN 980’s “The Man Cave” to discuss his client’s future. Leading the NL in batting average (.336), homers (41) and on-base percentage (.468), it’s a forgone conclusion Harper will demand an astronomical deal in 2018.

“I've never heard anything [from the Nationals] that suggests they don't appreciate what Bryce Harper does and who he is,” Boras said, per NJ.com. “As time goes on, there are economic decisions to make.

“We'll see what's ahead for Bryce."

“Economic decisions,” of course, serving as euphemism for -- as Goodfellas aptly put it in 1990 -- “[expletive] you, pay me.”

This is where the Yankees come in. This is where Buster Olney’s prophecy will come true.

"Let's make this very clear, this is all speculation at this point," Olney said in June, per Washington Post. "He's got three-and-a-half more years left with the Nationals. I think it's inevitable that he winds up with the Yankees, in part because think about where the Yankees are with their payroll situation going forward."

Admittedly, the plausibility of this scenario is still three years away. Injuries, poor form or the emergence of a dynasty in Washington are all factors that will determine Harper’s future with the Nationals.

But history repeats itself.

Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka and a slew of others all departed for the Bronx in search of greener pastures -- and not the kind covering the outfield.

An already marketable Harper will be no different.
