Turns out, the Neymar to Manchester United transfer rumors weren’t as ridiculous as previously believed. The Brazil captain admitted to ESPN Brazil that he had conversations with the club this past summer, per Fox Sports.

2022 World Cup Dates Confirmed

"We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete,” he said. "I heard that there were offers, but none were made to me."

Who didn’t Manchester United have conversations with?

Michel Platini Sold Out Sepp Blatter

Paul Pogba, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Thomas Muller, Robert Lewandowski, Pedro, Harry Kane, Sergio Ramos and every other footballer who ever laced his cleats were linked with a potential move to Old Trafford.

The English press had Louis van Gaal experimenting with the famed 1-1-8 formation for Matchday 1.

In the end, United settled for Anthony Martial. Despite overpaying -- €80 million for an unproven 19-year-old -- the club is reaping some rewards early in the campaign. Martial boasts four goals through his first four appearances and United are just two points off the pace in the table.

But Martial is no Neymar.

A club once viewed as the most powerful in the world is limited to “conversations” with players of his ilk, not signatures.
