The New York Jets have signed free agent quarterback Brady Quinn, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Quinn, who was recently cut by the Seattle Seahawks, has also played with the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs. The former Notre Dame star joins a Jets roster that also includes rookie quarterback Geno Smith, journeyman Matt Simms and currently injured incumbent starter Mark Sanchez.

In signing Quinn, the Jets also announced they have released Graham Harrell, who they signed just last week. The team has yet to name a starter for their season Sept. 8 season opener against visiting Tampa Bay, though Smith is thought to have the inside track, according to ProFootballTalk.

Selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Smith was up and down through much of the preseason, completing just 70 of 124 passes for 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. He was also sacked an alarming 14 times.

Far more colorful than he has thus far been proficient, Smith also made news earlier this summer by becoming one of the first big-names athletes to sign on with Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports, joining a stable that now also includes Kevin Durant, Victor Cruz, Robinson Cano and the WNBA's Skylar Diggins.

Quinn, 29, has played six NFL seasons after being tabbed by Cleveland in the first round of the 2007 draft. He has appeared in 24 games, completing 54 percent of his passes for 12 touchdowns and a 64.4 passing rate.

Sanchez, the Jets starter in each of his first four seasons, is expected to be sidelined for at least several more weeks with the shoulder injury he suffered in the team's third preseason game.
