Los Angeles' potential loss may be the Rams' gain.

The NFL franchise currently in St. Louis may have gained a tremendous advantage over the Chargers and Raiders in the relocation race to Los Angeles, according to Pro Football Talk.

Carson Mayor's Situation Puts Chargers-Raiders Relocation Plan In Jeopardy

"Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL may ultimately move only one team to Los Angeles, Pro Football Talk reported. "And that would happen not as a short-term thing, but as an indefinite move that could result in a second team never going to Los Angeles.

"... If only one team goes, that team likely would be the Rams, since owner Stan Kroenke already has plans in place to fund privately a one-team stadium in Inglewood. The proposed project in Carson hinges on two teams: the Chargers and the Raiders."

Two Developments Give Rams Upper Hand In Relocation Plans

The shift in philosophy comes in the belief that after 20 years without the NFL in L.A., the best business move may not be to suddenly place two teams there, Pro Football Talk added.

The Committee on Los Angeles Opportunities is expected to take a more hands-on role in the relocation plans, the Los Angeles Times reported. The more active role could mean an expedition of the decision-making process.

"The Rams think they have the better project and location, and the deeper pockets and L.A. roots," the Times reported. "The Chargers and Raiders are confident they have the support of most NFL owners -- San Diego's Dean Spanos is especially popular among his peers -- and, not surprisingly, those two teams prefer their plan, location, and the fact theirs would be an outdoor stadium with real grass."

If the NFL votes to allow only one team to move, and the Rams earn that bid, Spanos and Mark Davis (the owner in Oakland) could persuade seven other owners to vote against the Rams, PFT reported.

That could force Kroenke to move without the NFL's consent and begin another court battle, which isn't exactly good news for the league, considering its track record.
