The rape investigation into Patrick Kane took a crazy turn when the rape kit evidence bag was dropped off at the victim's mother's doorstep.

Kane, who is a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Blackhawks, was accused of raping a 21-year-old woman back in August at his Hamburg, N.Y. home. The woman's lawyer, Thomas J. Eoannou, brought the bag to a press conference and confirmed it was authentic and anonymously delivered to the home.

"The rape kit evidence bag has been tampered with," Eoannou said, adding that his client's name and birthday were revealed on it as well as the location of where the rape kit was done and the initials of the nurse who performed it.

The bag, which was ripped open, is never supposed to leave law enforcement or the district attorney's office, the lawyer said, requesting that a separate law enforcement agency look into how the breach could have possibly happened.

"In my 30 years plus of being both a prosecutor and a defense attorney, I have never seen an evidence bag outside a of police lab, a prosecutor's office, or a courtroom, let alone find one in the door way of a rape victim's mother's home," Eoannou said in video provided by TMZ. "This evidence bag has been ripped open. The purpose of an evidence bag is to protect the items of evidence from tampering. The bag itself is even critical evidence to the chain of custody."

Kane, 26, hasn't been charged with a crime yet and he's taken part in the Blackhawk's training camp. The winger dressed for the club's preseason-opener against the Red Wings on Tuesday, notching an assist in Chicago's 5-4 overtime victory.

The 2013 Conn Smythe Trophy winner had 27 goals in the regular season and 11 tallies in the playoffs in the team's race toward its third Cup in six years last seaon.

Kane broke his silence at a press conference last week ahead of training camp, but didn't say much about the investigation.

"Out of respect for the ongoing legal process, I can't comment," he said via the Chicago Tribune.
