Survivor pools are fun, and they seem easy, but it’s actually very hard to last longer than a few weeks. For those who have never done a survivor pool, the rules are simple. Each week you pick one team to win outright—usually, survivor pools do not use spreads. Once you’ve picked that team, they’re unavailable to you for the rest of the season.

These are three picks that will keep you alive.

The Sure Thing: PATRIOTS over Jaguars

Last week we thought we weren’t getting cute but we were. By taking Baltimore over Oakland, it was the second straight road favorite and sure enough, the Ravens burned us. Hopefully you picked the Steelers instead.

This time, there is no doubt which team is the best bet. Tom Brady nearly hit 500 yards passing last week vs. Rex Ryan’s Bills. The Jaguars pulled off a win last week, but it wasn’t the defense that did it. The Patriots are going to score at will in all likelihood vs. the Jags, and even if New England’s defense is no great shakes, Blake Bortles and co. can’t keep up.

The Next Best Thing: SEAHAWKS over Bears

This game might be even more of a sure thing. At 0-2, it’s hard to picture the Seahawks losing three straight games no matter where they play. Throw in this game being their home opener, and it’s a perfect storm of situations for the Seahawks to open up a can.

On the Bears side, they’re going to be without QB Jay Cutler. That means Jimmy Clausen is going to be sacrificed to an angry defense, that doubles as desperate.

Offensively, the Bears can be run on, so Marshawn Lynch should have a big game. Carson Palmer threw for four touchdowns in Week 2 as well, so really the Bears are a mess all around. Seattle’s record is deceptive; they faltered against two excellent teams on the road, and played both tough. This is a simple choice.

If You Want To Get Cute: Colts over TENNESSEE

What’s life without a little danger? The Colts have been extremely shaky on offense for two straight weeks, and Marcus Mariota will probably be the best quarterback they’ll have faced this season. With that said, the Titans will be the first non-elite defense the Colts will get to face, and Andrew Luck will be expected to light them up.
