The NHL preseason kicks off Monday night and the Maple Leafs visit the Senators to start the exhibition slate for both clubs.

Toronto had a busy offseason after a forgettable 2014-15 campaign saw it finish with a 30-44-8 mark (68 points) and miss the playoffs for the second straight year. Ottawa, meanwhile, went on an impressive late-season run and clinched a postseason berth for the third time in four seasons before bowing out to the Canadiens in six games in Round 1.

--These teams are splitting their squads as another game between Leafs and Senators players will take place in Toronto, but won't be televised. For this game, the top names for Toronto include Nazem Kadri, Joffrey Lupul, Shawn Matthias and James Reimer. Ottawa, meanwhile, counters with a unit flanked by Bobby Ryan, Kyle Turris and Craig Anderson.

--This will mark the coaching debut of Mike Babcock for the Maple Leafs after he came over to Toronto in the offseason. Babcock spent 10 seasons in Detroit, guiding the Red Wings to the playoffs every year he was there and compiling a 458-223-105 record. Overall as an NHL coach, he is 527-285-19-119.

--The Maple Leafs made several additions and subtractions this offseason. Most notably for Toronto, leading-scorer Phil Kessel was dealt to the Penguins, while Shawn Matthias, Michael Grabner and P-A Parenteau were among the additions. The Senators mostly stood pat and will look for Ryan, Turris and promising young stars like Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman to continue to lead them.
