As head coach of the Jets, Rex Ryan made it his mission to best Patriots' boss Bill Belichick and his mindset hasn't changed now that he's with the Bills. Much like last season, Ryan was confounded by the genius from New England in his first attempt to best him with Buffalo.

The Patriots topped the Bills 40-32 at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo Sunday afternoon, and Ryan made no secret of where he was placing the blame.

"This loss is squarely on one man's shoulders," Ryan said after the game, according to ESPN. "It's on my shoulders."

Ryan took it a step further, saying his arch nemesis bested him in the battle fought with headsets.

Peyton Manning Silences Retirement Critics

"[Bill] Belichick outcoached me," Ryan said. "No question about it, and that's where the game ... that's how it ended up, and it's unfortunate. The plan has to be better on defense. Can't give up 500 yards and beat anybody, and then we turn it over three times. We did a horse s--t job, and it's my responsibility."

The Bills attempted comeback bid after entering the fourth quarter trailing 37-13, but they just didn't have enough in them to complete the come-from-behind victory despite out-scoring the Patriots 19-3 in the final frame. Ryan, a sharp defensive mind, watched as his unit allowed Tom Brady to throw for 466 passing yards, the most ever against Buffalo in franchise history.

Ryan burst onto the scene in 2009 and led the Jets to a stunning 16-9 victory over the Patriots in just his second game as the head coach, but he's been on a losing end against Belichick's bunch more often than not. Ryan also led Gang Green into New England and defeated his rival in the divisional playoffs, 28-21, in the 2010-11 playoffs for one of his biggest wins in green and white.

The coach hoped to improve upon a 4-9 record against Belichick and the Patriots in his first attempt at besting them in Buffalo blue, but he suffered his 10th loss in excruciating fashion on Sunday.

"I think our record against him has been OK," Belichick quipped prior to the game per NESN. "I'll take it."

Ryan will get his chance at redemption in Foxborough on "Monday Night Football" Nov. 23 when the teams meet again, but for now he is saddled with the familiar feeling of defeat to his foe.

"Hey, man, I just know his team won," Ryan said. "Again."
