The Los Angeles Clippers have signed veteran swingman Antawn Jamison, all but rendering their interest in troubled forward Lamar Odom a obsolete.
According to ProBasketballTalk.com, the Clippers inked Jamison, 37, to a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum. Jamison won't have to go far to join his new team. He spent last season with the Lakers, where he averaged 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds.
Playing alongside super-sub Jamal Crawford, Jamison, who shot 36 percent on threes and 46 percent overall last season, is expected to provide punch and stability to the Clippers second unit. The Clippers have long coveted the versatile swingman, reaching out to him as early as a week into free agency.
More recently, new Clippers coach Doc Rivers sat down face-to-face with Jamison, detailing for him how the team envisions him helping them to build on their strong Western Conference showing of a year ago.
With Jamison now officially in, Odom's Clipper career almost certainly comes to a close. ProBasketballTalk has previously reported the team was debating between bringing Odom back or signing Jamison. But, given all Odom's recent troubles, they moved quickly this week to forge a deal with Jamison.
Meanwhile, Odom;s career remains up in the air. Multiple-media outlets reported this week that the 33-year-old veteran is battling a "hardcore" drug addiction and he has had the problem for at least the last two years. Many of those same reports indicate Odom's marriage to reality TV star Khloe Kardashian is also on the rocks amid allegations of his infidelity.
At least two women have stepped forward over the last several weeks to claim they engaged in longtime affairs with with him. And 29-year-old Washington stripper Jennifer Richardson even insists the two openly talked of having a child together.
