Tonight at 7:00 p.m. the Philadelphia Eagles will travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets in the final preseason tune up for both teams before the regular season kicks off. Live stream the game here; Jets fans can listen to the game on 98.7 ESPN FM, while Eagles fans may do the same on 94 WYSP.
Both teams entered the preseason with gigantic question marks about their quarterback situations, but as the preseason has worn on, the Eagles got resounding clarity, while the Jets' waters have never been muddier.
Michael Vick has completed almost 74 percent of his preseason passes, tossing two touchdowns and two interceptions, but showing sharp accuracy for the most part under new head coach Chip Kelly.
The Jets' situation was pretty clear as well heading into the fourth quarter of their Week 3 tilt with the New York Giants. Rookie second-round pick Geno Smith had tossed three picks in his only preseason start, all but locking up the starting role for incumbent passer Mark Sanchez.
Rex Ryan curiously put Sanchez in the game in the fourth quarter, however, behind an offensive line of backup. Sanchez was crushed on a pass attempt by Giants' defensive lineman Marvin Austin and injured his shoulder, casting his Week 1 availability in doubt.
Smith is being held out of tonight's game so that a repeat situation doesn't occur, opening the door for Matt Simms to make a big impression on the coaching staff. Regular third-stringer Greg McElroy sprained his knee recently and is not able to play tonight, while Simms has looked good all preseason.
Also competing for that No. 3 slot will be Graham Harrell, recently released by the Green Bay Packers when he was beaten out by Vince Young for the right to back up Aaron Rodgers.
