Tiger Woods's body appears to be losing the battle to Father Time.

The former No. 1 golfer in the world revealed Friday that he underwent a second microdiscectomy surgery on his back. The news came from his website, TigerWoods.com.

"This is certainly disappointing, but I'm a fighter," Woods said on his website. "I've been told I can make a full recovery, and I have no doubt that I will. I appreciate the fans' concern and support. This is unfortunate, but these things happen. I've been injured before and played again. It won't be any different this time."

Woods had surgery on March 31, 2014, to correct a pinched nerve in his back. He came back just three months later but then had to shut down again until his foundation-hosted Hero World Challenge in December.

When he returned in 2014, he admitted how much more difficult rehabbing from a back injury was compared to returning after missing time due to ailments in other parts of his body.

"There's no comparison between a knee and a back," he said in advance of the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, according to Golfchannel.com. "The knee is so much easier to deal with and rehab from than coming back from a back (surgery). I've had Achilles injuries, obviously knee surgeries, but this thing is just way different. It's way more debilitating than I thought."

Tiger last played in the Wyndham Championship in August and was tied for the lead after the first two rounds, but complained of pain in his hip. At the time, he insisted his back was fine.

The pain, however, was emanating from his back as he was suffering from another pinched nerve, CBS Sports reported.

"Tiger Woods underwent a microdiscectomy late on Sept. 16 at Park City Medical Center," neurosurgeon Dr. Charles Rich said on TigerWoods.com. "With the upcoming offseason, the decision was made to remove a small disc fragment that was pinching his nerve. The microsurgery was a complete success, and he was discharged Thursday night."

Woods has endured knee, Achilles Heel and elbow issues over the past seven years along with his back problems. His ailments, combined with his much-publicized marital issues with now ex-wife Elin Nordegren has kept him from winning a major since the 2008 U.S. Open.

This latest surgery serves as a reminder that Woods should err on the side of caution and make sure he has recovered fully before returning to competitive golf. He has not shown such patience with his earlier injuries and/or surgeries.

If Woods comes back too quickly, a third surgery may finish him.
