While a Michael Phelps return to the swimming pool for the 2016 Olympics remains doubtful, another cameo on the small screen is official.
Phelps, who appeared in an episode of Entourage back in 2008 and hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live that same year, will appear in a guest starring role for the show Suits on USA Network during the second half of the series' third season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 22-time Olympic medalist (18 gold) will appear as himself in the show's midseason premiere, set to air in the first quarter of 2014. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot will consist of cocky lawyer Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) going face-to-face with the one sports client he's failed to land. That's where Phelps comes in, as Harvey's old flame Scottie (Abigail Spencer) tries to nab the swimmer as their client, bringing up a rocky past between Specter and Phelps.
Phelps should be a great match for the TV show, as during the first half of season three Phelps tweeted his praise for the popular program:
He also called the show, along with SportsCenter and Game of Thrones, his favorite:
USA got wind of the tweets and actively worked at landing Phelps a role for the show. Suits wraps up its first half of season three Sept. 17, and airs Tuesday nights on the USA Network at 10 p.m.
While a return to active swimming at the 2016 Olympic Games is doubtful for Phelps, who retired after the 2012 Games in London, fans of his can see his acting chops when Suits gets rolling next year.
