The Baltimore Orioles (70-59) are 5.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox (77-55) in the American League East standings, and have a chance to put a big dent in that deficit as they embark on a three-game set in Fenway Park. Tonight's game, scheduled for a 7:10 p.m. start can be live streamed here. Orioles fans can listen to the action on 1090 WBAL, while Red Sox fans can tune in to WEEI 93.7.
The Red Sox just took two out of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers, which is no small feat, so running into Boston right now could be like heading for a buzz saw. Jake Peavy, the Sox's big trade deadline catch, summed up the team's attitude following their series victory.
"This shows the caliber of ballclub that we are," Peavy said. "We're on the same level with those guys. I knew the day I walked into this clubhouse what we had here. And every guy, man for man, knows that we're capable of playing with anybody on a given day. It's just up to us to be prepared to do that."
Tonight, Felix Doubront (9-6, 3.79 ERA) toes the rubber for Boston. The left-hander has been one of Beantown's most consistent assets in 2013; he struggled for the first two months of the season, but since June has posted a 3.07 ERA, with six wins and four losses.
Baltimore is in the middle of a treacherous point in their schedule, with an extended road trip against the clubs they're directly competing with. After this series with the Red Sox, the Orioles will take on the Yankees and Indians, two teams closely trailing them in the wild card hunt.
"We've got a tough road trip, every team we're playing is in it. We've got a pretty hectic little schedule at the end of the year, and we all realize that," outfielder Nick Markakis said.
Tonight the O's will hand the ball to Wei-Yin Chen (7-6, 3.19 ERA).
