NFL Week 1 Betting Strategy: Make Some Money Off These 5 Prop Bets [VIDEO]

The NFL season is officially underway, and even though the Patriots and Steelers provided fireworks in the Thursday night opener, Sunday is where it’s at! Here are the five best player prop bets to spice up the games in lieu of more traditional straight bets.

Andrew Luck Over 24.5 Completions (-105)

The Bills had one of the NFL’s top rushing and pass defense in 2014, but where they struggled at times was defending No. 2 and slot wide receivers. The Colts have one of the best receiving units in the NFL, and Buffalo’s cornerbacks are going to struggle to keep up with speedy players like T.Y. Hilton and Phillip Dorsett. Andre Johnson on the outside will cause problems as well, while Luck is not going to be phased by the Bills’ pass rush. The Bills are going to stuff the run, so Luck will be throwing from the start.

Ryan Tannehill Under 266.5 Passing Yards

Tannehill had a breakout campaign in 2014, but that doesn’t mean he’s a passing machine all of a sudden. If the Redskins are as bad as many predict, Miami might be able to take care of business by running all over them. The Dolphins love to run the rock with Lamar Miller, and Tannehill is a part of it too. If it gets out of hand, then his attempts will be way down.

Doug Baldwin Over 3.5 Total Receptions

The Rams defense is being hyped up this year and for good reason; their D-line promises to be the deepest and most talented in the NFL. The Rams ranked 20th vs. the pass in 2014, however, because their secondary is lagging in the talent department. Seattle added TE Jimmy Graham this season to be the true No. 1 target in the passing game, but he will simply serve to decrease attention on the No. 1 wide receiver Doug Baldwin. He may hit this over by the end of the first half.

Golden Tate Under 67.5 Receiving Yards

Tate’s production took a giant leap whenever Calvin Johnson was injured or out in 2014. As of now, Johnson is fully healthy, and the Lions are going up against a quality pass defense. Last season the Chargers were just 26th in the NFL against No. 2 wide receivers, but much of their poor play came after rookie Jason Verett was lost to injury. He’s back, and he should be able to contain Tate, who is going to lose targets to Megatron anyway. Tate won’t be invisible, but five catches and 50 yards seems about right. His fantasy owners will be hoping for a TD.

Justin Forsett Over 57.5 Rushing Yards

The Ravens don’t have much of a passing game, so running the football will be paramount to their success. They have an elite offensive line blocking for Justin Forsett, who ran for more than 1,200 yards and scored eight touchdowns last year, and the Broncos lost their top run-stuffing defensive lineman from a year ago, Terrance Knighton.

The Denver defense is still strong, but even if they hold Forsett to 75-80 yards, that’s a successful game for them, and he’ll have blown past this number. Need more? Forsett topped 57.5 yards in 12 of his 16 games last season.
