CM Punk may have called himself the "Best in the World," but his lawyers didn't live up to that moniker in their recent appeal.
Punk and his friend Colt Cabana were sued for libel by WWE doctor Chris Amann for their disparaging remarks about him on a podcast in November and their lawyer's efforts to overturn the case were denied by a judge, according to the Wrestling Observer.

After he walked out on the WWE in January 2014, Punk appeared on Cabana's "Art of Wrestling" podcast that November and discussed everything that led to his departure. Punk took issue with Dr. Amann, saying he misdiagnosed a staph infection he had as a "fatty deposit."
He also claimed he sustained a head injury on his final night with the company and that Amann was looking to sweep it under the rug.

The soon-to-be UFC fighter's lawyers tried to argue that the case should be thrown out by the judge due to the fact that Cabana was serving in a media capacity and conducting an interview, while Punk never mentioned Amann by name. On the podcast, Punk did drop Amann's name twice, but he just said "Doc" when referring to the incident with the staph infection.
The judge ruled on the side of Dr. Amann for the case to go forward and the two sides will enter the discovery phase of the trail where they gather evidence to get ready for it to play out.
After leaving the WWE disgruntled, Punk announced in December that he signed a deal with UFC and his debut is slated for either later this year or in 2016. Upon signing, Punk started to train out of Roufusport in Milwaukee, but a time, place and opponent for his debut in the Octagon has yet to be established.
Punk's wife, AJ Lee, retired from the WWE in March despite staying with the company through all of the drama of her husband leaving. It is believed that the lawsuit with Amann is what led to the three-time Divas Champion's departure from the company.
