Want to know how Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez really cares about Louis van Gaal? Look no further than his latest instagram post.
Hernandez—who signed a three-year deal with Bayer Leverkusen on Monday for a reported fee of £8.75 million—paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United fans, but not van Gaal. Ferguson was responsible for plucking Hernandez from Chivas Guadalajara in 2010, granting him his dream of competing at the highest level.
Manchester United Made A Mistake Letting Go Of Chicharito
"I want to thank Sir Alex Ferguson and Jim Lawlor [chief scout], the club staff, all the players I played with," he captioned his post. "But especially I want to thank all the Manchester United fans in the UK and all around the world for the incredible support I've had this past four years and all the best wishes they have for me in my new chapter!!"
That new chapter began with a 72-minute appearance against Paderborn on Tuesday. Hernandez predictably squandered a good chance after only three minutes.
Leverkusen subsequently lost 2-0.
Always optimistic, Hernandez believes he took a positive first step, but still needs to resolve chemistry issues within the club.
"The others need to get to know my style of play, and I theirs," he said after the match, per ESPN FC. "I am very happy. I played the first minutes for my team, and it helps me to find my rhythm."
Hernandez's next first-team minutes will be with Mexico, not Leverkusen, as the team prepares for a meeting with Argentina. His Bundesliga debut will come against Darmstadt on Sept. 12.
