Just days after losing the starting job to Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett reportedly overslept and missed practice Thursday. It's a surprise anyone even noticed considering the five-year QB has been sleeping on the field for years.

In seven career appearances, Mallett completed a paltry 53.2 percent of his passes for 417 yards and just two TDs. His three career INTs and average of 5.3 YPA further highlight his inability to perform.
With numbers like that, skipping practice was probably not the brightest idea.

He wisely returned to practice on Friday, but was sent a message by head coach Bill O'Brien. Both Hoyer and Tom Savage were running drills ahead of Mallet, who was forced to practice with the third string.

At least he completed some passes.
O'Brien refused to even comment on the matter in his press conference, repeatedly referring back to Hoyer instead.
"Well I thought Brian Hoyer [strongly emphasized vocally] had a good practice today," he said, per Battle Red Blog. "He did some really good things in practice today. I think Tom did some decent things, and Ryan, when he got in there, was, ah, able to do some things.
"I would say today that Brian Hoyer [emphasized vocally, again] had one of his better practices situationally and all the different things we threw at him," he added. "I thought he had a good solid practice today."
Fortunately for Mallett, not much can be read into Friday's practice. When asked if Mallett was still No. 2 on the depth chart, O'Brien simply answered, "yes."
