Nikki Bella appears well on her way to breaking the record for longest reign as Divas Champion, but she had to grapple some rumors that circulated regarding her championship run.

There is speculation that the WWE's creative team wanted Bella to drop her Divas Championship to WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair's daughter Charlotte, but Bella's real-life boyfriend John Cena had the plans nixed, according to Wrestlingheadlines.com.

The reported plans would have seen Charlotte, the current PCB member, kick-off her career by ending Bella's lengthy reign atop the division. This would have been similar to when Paige defeated AJ Lee in her WWE debut to win the gold in April 2014.

Bella took to Twitter to seemingly address these rumors in a post, while she avoided being specific:

While the rumors have been flying around the internet, Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer reported that he couldn't confirm the speculation. Meltzer also couldn't rule it out either while he said he was unaware of the plans for Charlotte to win the belt.

Meltzer also said there have been instances of Cena stepping up for Bella in the past. Cena's relationship with Bella is at least considered part of the reason she's had such a long-tenured title reign due to the "Cenation" leader being the face of the WWE.

Cena and Bella have been dating since November 2012 and the two have been featured on the E! Network reality show "Total Divas" together in the past.

As for Charlotte, there are rumors that she'll battle Bella at Night of Champions on Sept. 20 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Tex., but it remains to be seen if it will still happen.

Bella has held the belt for 277 days and there has been a lot of belief that she'll remain as champion for at least 300 days. The "Total Divas" star is hunting down AJ Lee's record reign of 295 days on top.

The jury is out on whether or not Bella needed Cena's help to do it, but the Diva has tried her hand in putting an end to the rumors.
