Aug. 26, just another Wednesday in the calendar year. Unless, of course, you’re the owner of a certain four-legged animal.
National Dog Day is celebrated annually in the United States—not because pet owners want to annoyingly bombard your timeline with photos—but because the holiday helps galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year.
In addition to awareness, the holiday also acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep owners safe and bring comfort.
The sports world did not get that memo.
As is the case with nearly everything, Twitter opted to celebrate the lighter side of National Dog Day. Below are the five most memorable posts of the day.
