The New York Yankees plan to argue that Alex Rodriguez’s illegal steroid use led to his most recent injuries if he ever follows up on his threat to file a medical malpractice suit against the team and its lead medic, Dr. Chris Ahmad.

Only days after legal advisors for Rodriguez made their intentions known and added team officials misdiagnosed the hip injury he suffered during last year’s playoffs, RadarOnline is reporting the Yankees “believe Alex’s use of steroids was what caused the injury.” Rodriguez ultimately had off-season hip surgery that sidelined him until July.

“Alex complained during medical examinations that it was his right hip that was ailing and mentioned nothing about the left hip,” a team insider told Radar. “The suggestion that the Yankees and Dr. Ahmad were in cahoots to misdiagnose Alex are absolutely ridiculous.”

The source added if Rodriguez proceeds with a suit, the organization “will begin a very thorough discovery process which will include Alex’s medical records… records will be filed with the court and will be available to the public.”

Rodriguez was recently hit with a record-setting 211-game suspension in connection with the Biogenesis performance enhancing drug scandal he has been implicated in. He has appealed the action and continues to suit up for the team.

“The Yankees organization is fed up with Rodriguez and these outrageous claims being made by his advisers,” the source added. “They are attempting to once again deflect attention from the real issue, Alex’s use of steroids.”
