Pity Eagles backup quarterback Matt Barkley.

Multiple media outlets suggest Barkley outplayed his fellow Philadelphia backup - a guy by the name of Tim Tebow - during the Eagles' 36-10 preseason victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Rams may have gained upper hand in move to Los Angeles

Barkley completed 12 of 20 passes for 192 yards with an interception that was tipped by a Colts linebacker that Eagles coach Chip Kelly says should have been blocked, according to Philly.com.

Tebow was 6-for-12 passing for 69 yards with a seven-yard touchdown run to his credit. It's the latter statistic that could keep him ahead of Barkley in the race to become the Eagles' third-string quarterback.

Browns' subpar running in preseason opener makes Ray Rice signing more of a possibility

"Several executives and coaches around the league believe that all things being close to even, Kelly would prefer to keep Tebow for key gadget plays, fourth-down situations, and most notably two-point conversions, which have been incentivized by the new NFL rules and which were all the rage in the first week of the preseason. In this regard Tebow -- a quarterback? A fullback? An H-back? All of the above? -- would seem to have an advantage. His inclusion on this 53-man roster would only add more fuel to the Cult of Chip and the notion that the mysterious head coach is not just driven to win but to win in a way few others could easily duplicate," CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported.

"Of course, Sunday's outing couldn't be construed as close to even between Barkley and Tebow to even the most jaundiced pro-Tebow advocate."

Philly.com concurred, adding that Tebow remains the more intriguing talent.

"There's little doubt that Kelly is dying for this experiment to work. So doesn't Barkley have to be wondering what else is out there, who else might be interested in him?" philly.com posted.

"That's my agent's job," Barkley told philly.com after the exhibition. "We'll probably talk after this game, but I'm not checking message boards or headlines or anything like that."
