Roger Federer insulted other random sports in castigating Australian Nick Kyrgios for his comments about Stan Wawrinka's girlfriend.

The future tennis Hall of Famer and current No. 3 player in the world said Kyrgios' comments have tarnished the brand that other players have cultivated for years, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Rafael Nadal Denounces Nick Kyrgios As Bad Role Model Of The Sport

"I think we all agree that he definitely crossed the line by a long shot. We're not used to that kind of talk in tennis. I know in other sports it's quite common, maybe normal. Not in our sport, really," Federer said. "I think it's normal that the tour comes down hard on him and explains to him that it's not the way forward.

"Clearly (the behavior) was very disappointing and not great for the sport, one that I think many players have tried to build up and make it a good image, build up a good image," Federer added. "We want kids to be wanting to get into this sport because it's a nice sport."

Nick Kyrgios Makes Lewd Comment About Stan Wawrinka's Girlfriend During Match

Federer did not mention which other sports to which trash-talking is common.

Kyrgios caused a maelstrom when he made a lewd and insensitive comment about Wawrinka's girlfriend last week during their match at the Rogers Cup. Rafael Nadal had some hard words for him, while Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray tended to be more sympathetic while denouncing his behavior.

Kygrios, who apologized after the match for his remark, also apologized to compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis, whom Kyrgios mention in his comment about Wawrinka's girlfriend, according to Fox Sports Australia.

"I was watching it but I didn't actually know it happened," said Kokkinakis. "I found out via one of the Fox Sports guys that sent me a tweet. It was pretty crazy what happened. Obviously he shouldn't have said what he said under the circumstances. But yeah, it is what it is and, yeah, got to move past it now.

"He apologized to me," Kokkinakis added. "I let him know, I made it pretty clear that he can't be doing that. If he's got a problem, he's got to say it in private. The way he went about it definitely wasn't the right thing."
