Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson is free on bail after a fight with reality TV girlfriend landed him behind bars and facing harassment charges that include striking, shoving and kicking.
According to ESPN, Lawson was arrested by Arapahoe County police Saturday night at his home after the couple engaged in some sort of physical altercation. Girlfriend Ashley Nicole, who stars on the reality show Bad Girls Club, was also charged and arrested.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said the incident also appears to have involved yelling and screaming and damaging of cellphones. He added the conflict was “a mutual situation.”
In a written statement, Nuggets GM Tim Connelly said the team is fully aware of the incident and the charges filed against Lawson but that, “per team policy and out of respect of the legal process,” would have no further comment.
All of the charges filed against Lawson are misdemeanors and bond required for his release was just $1,000. He is expected back in court later this summer.
Lawson signed a four-year, $48 million contract extension with the Nuggets last October. He averaged 17.7 points, 6.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.47 steals in 73 games last season.
Lawson also has a record stemming from a traffic case last April where police ultimately charged him with flight to avoid prosecution. He eventually pled guilty to permitting an unauthorized person to drive charges.
