The Dodgers squashed any rumors of outfielder Yasiel Puig being dealt when they removed him from revocable trade waivers.

5 Candidates To Win The NL MVP Award

Los Angeles took Puig off of waivers Tuesday after he was claimed by another team, according to ESPN's Jayson Stark. Following the non-waiver trade deadline, it's not uncommon for teams to place players on the wire to see what kind of interest they generate before pulling them back.

Now that he's been taken off the wire, Puig is no longer a candidate to be dealt as teams can only place a player on revocable waivers once per season, according to Fox Sports.

Wrigley Field Evacuated Due To Bomb Threat

Puig, 24, has had a rough go of it in his third season in Dodger blue, which led to a diminished role for the young outfielder as skipper Don Mattingly looked to insert Carl Crawford into the lineup more regularly.

Mattingly explained his reasoning for benching Puig more frequently earlier this week.

"I just let him know that he's not just going to automatically be out of there against righties," Mattingly said, according to ESPN. "He's going to be in there, it's just occasional days off. I know a couple have come here recently as we want to mix Carl back in."

Mattingly added that Puig, who has often drawn the ire of his teammates in the past, took their conversation in stride and that he "didn't look like he was ready to hit me or anything."

After putting together two straight solid seasons, Puig has slashed just .246/.317/.432 with nine homers and 34 RBIs in 66 games this season. The 2014 All-Star also missed time due to hamstring issues and was placed on the disabled list for the first time in his MLB career earlier this season.

Despite his struggles, Puig drove in five runs in the Dodgers' 5-0 victory over the Nationals on Tuesday.

In search of its third straight NL West crown, Los Angeles has a 2.5-game lead over San Francisco in the division entering Wednesday.
