Jared Remy, a former security official for the Red Sox, is a suspect in the stabbing death of his girlfriend Jennifer Martel. Martel was found dead in the couple's Waltham, Massachusetts apartment where they lived with Martel's two-year-old daughter. The young girl was unhurt and is currently in the care of the Department of Children and Families.

Martel was found bleeding from multiple stab wounds in the rear of the apartment on a fenced in patio. A large blood stain was still visible this morning next to a pink tricycle on the patio.

Jared has been released on unspecified bail. According to Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan, the decision to release Remy "was based on a totality of circumstances."

Jared's past record has ugly blemishes on it. In 2005, he was arrested and charged with domestic abuse for assaulting his girlfriend. He was also fired from his job as a member of the Red Sox's security team in 2009 after being allegedly involved in steroid dealing. He is an admitted user of steroids in the past, but an MLB investigation could not prove he sold any performance enhancing drugs to players.

The investigation of Jared Remy, and fellow security officer Alex Cyr, is sure to be examined closely as this stabbing inquiry proceeds. Following MLB's investigation into Remy and Cyr, Remy said to media outlets that he thought the league was just doing damage control. He also implied MLB really wasn't interested in digging up much about steroid use.

"They didn't ask much at all; they wanted to make it disappear,'' he said. "Major League Baseball asked me, 'Have you ever seen any players do steroids?' '' Remy recalled. "I said, 'No. no.' . . . He said, 'If you're honest with me, nothing will happen to you.' Next thing I know, I get fired.''
