As part of a new Nike/Foot Locker promotional ad, Kevin Durant seems to openly ponder the question of why he doesn’t have a nickname.
In the ad, Durant sits and watches as lesser skilled players are introduced by comedian and commercial hype man Hannibal Buress with their nickname. Yet, when he gets to him, he’s simply introduced as Kevin “Kevin” Durant.
The ad seems to be asking fans to give the two-time scoring champion, a moniker benefitting of his pedigree.
The 24-year-old Oklahoma City Thunder star has led the NBA in scoring two of the last three years and in 2012 led OKC to a Finals series showdown against LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat.
Since his rookie season, Durant has never averaged less than 25 points per game, and over his last five NBA seasons has averaged nearly 26 points, 7 rebounds and 3 rebounds.
Durant, who already has endorsement deals with Nike, Sprint, Gatorade. General Electric and 2KSports, also recently signed on with Jay Z in becoming his Roc Nation Sports agency firm’s biggest client.
