Gennady "GGG" Golovkin is on a quest to become the greatest middleweight of all-time, and his upcoming fight vs. fellow knockout artist and 160-pound champion David Lemieux could be a big step toward that. Former middleweight great Bernard Hopkins discussed Lemieux vs. GGG, and thinks it will compare to a boxing classic-Marvin Hagler vs. Tommy Hearns.

"This fight has all the makings of a six-round or longer version of Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns," Hopkins said. "They only went three rounds, if this fight has half that type of action, which to me, the styles say it all, and the way their demeanors are, however it lasts or how long it lasts, enjoy it."

Hopkins, who holds the record for most consecutive middleweight title defenses (20), is an authority on the weight class and compared Golovkin to Felix "Tito" Trinidad, a Hall of Famer whom Hopkins overcame in 2001.

Hopkins said Golovkin is "much, much more of a destroyer" than Trinidad. "Trinidad, is one of the greatest of my era. That left hook, I felt it-it's no joke. But Triple G he has that determination and that body style and the way he positions his body, every punch from left to right can do damage.

"Lemieux, our guy [Golden Boy], has to really in some cases be more defensive-minded than offensive minded than Triple G."

Golovkin had hoped to face a big name like WBC middleweight champ Miguel Cotto, or drop down to 154 pounds for a shot at Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr., but those options have sought other, perhaps less ferocious challenges.

Golovkin vs. Lemieux will likely be on pay-per-view, but if the adage styles make fights has any truth, this fight will be more fan-friendly than just about any other fight Golovkin could schedule.
