WWE United States Champion John Cena sustained a broken nose on Monday Night RAW this week during his match with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.

The Cenation Leader was defending his gold against The Architect when an errant knee struck Cena in the nose, causing it to break. Cena was bleeding from his nose, which immediately appeared to be broken, and he also had swollen eyes.

The WWE also provided an injury update on Cena following his victory over Rollins.

"As you can see on television tonight, John suffered from a nasal fraction," Dr. Steve Daquino told WWE.com. "He's got quite a bit of displacement, so we sent him over to the local emergency room so he can be evaluated by the ears, nose and throat doctor who's on call tonight and see what can be done to properly repair it."

Joey Styles took to Twitter to provide a photo of Cena's broken nose as well:

Cena was able to finish the match despite the injury and he continued the amazing string of quality matches on RAW and pay-per-views/WWE Network specials as of late. Cena also took to Twitter to tweet the hashtag #NGU, which stands for Never Give Up, one of his many catchphrases.

Monday's storylines saw Cena challenge Rollins to a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match on the WWE's flagship show until The Authority countered that he would instead defend his United States Championship against the former Hounds of Justice creator.

Cena successfully won the match after making Rollins tap out the STFU, and it's likely that the two are building toward a clash at SummerSlam on Aug. 23 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

There is a lot of speculation that poor RAW ratings may lead to the WWE giving the richest prize in the game back to Cena at The Biggest Party of the Summer in order to end Rollins' reign, which started at WrestleMania 31 in March.

While the match isn't official, it's possible a title-for-title encounter will be booked for SummerSlam next month.
