Tonight at 7:10 p.m. ET, the Kansas City Royals (59-38) and Cleveland Indians (45-52) open up a three-game set live from Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Kansas City opens up a 10-match road trip having won two straight games while Cleveland resumes a seven-game homestand after dropping four consecutive contests to open it up.

The Royals took two out of three from the Houston Astros over the weekend while the Indians were swept away in four matchups with the Chicago White Sox.

Edinson Volquez (9-5, 3.15 ERA) takes the ball for Kansas City tonight while Cleveland counters with Cody Anderson and he is 2-1 with a 1.91 ERA thus far on the campaign.

Volquez held the Pittsburgh Pirates to one run in 7.2 innings last time out and he fanned eight batters.

Anderson, meanwhile, had a rough game against the Milwaukee Brewers last time he toed the rubber. The Indians hurler allowed four runs on 10 hits and lasted just 2.2 innings.

Though the Royals have taken five of nine from their opponents this season, the team is prepared for a tough battle.

"That's still a good team there, a dangerous team," skipper Ned Yost said, according to MLB.com. "We have a lot of respect for them."

Kansas City faces a Cleveland team that is paced by second baseman Jason Kipnis, who is second in the AL in hits (122), third in batting average (.321) and fourth in on-base percentage (.397).

Indians outfielder Michael Brantley is tied with Kipnis atop the AL with 20 doubles while first baseman Carlos Santana ranks second in the Junior Circuit with 64 walks.

The Royals counter with a club that is led by designated hitter Kendrys Morales and outfielder Alex Gordon. Morales is tied for third in the AL with 65 RBI while Gordon is fifth with a .394 on-base percentage.

Kansas City enters play atop the AL Central with a 7.5-game lead over the second place Minnesota Twins while Cleveland is in last place in the division, 14 games behind its opponent and 6.5 games out of a wild-card spot.
