The reality television world lost a stunning star, and New Orleans Pelicans power forward Ryan Anderson lost his girlfriend after former Bachelor star Gia Allemand was taken off life support following a suicide attempt.
Anderson discovered Allemand unconscious on Monday night and rushed her to a hospital where she was placed on life support. Unfortunately, her faculties were gone and she was taken off of it last night. She was 29 years old.
Her family released a statement that read, "Due to a critical loss of brain and organ function, life support was withdrawn today. Ms. Allemand passed away peacefully with her mother, boyfriend, and other lifelong friends by her side. As a practicing Christian, Gia did receive the sacrament of last rites."
"Loved ones and fans will remember Gia Allemand as a caring woman who loved her family and was well-known for her compassion towards animals and mission to rescue homeless pets. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming in another official statement once available. On behalf of the family, we sincerely ask for privacy at this time."
Allemand made a name for herself on the Jake Pavelka season of The Bachelor, finishing as a second runner-up and earning a place on the first two seasons of the spin-off series Bachelor Pad.
The news of Allemand's passing has shocked her former co-stars and colleagues. "We are absolutely devastated at the sad news of Gia's passing. She was a wonderful person and we are all that much better for having known her and having her in our lives. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and we will very much respect their privacy at this most difficult time," said Bachelor host Chris Harrison.
Many fans have reacted with shock and sadness as well, tweeting their grief. One fan, Jason Mesnick, tweeted, My heart is so heavy right now, I remember meeting you for the first time & the huge smile on your face. You are in my prayers @GiaAllemand."
