The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion appeared on The Boomer & Carton Show in New York City on Thursday to promote his book and he provided an update on his status.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Bryan revealed he has three years left on his current WWE contract, but a comeback to the squared circle remains up in the air until he gets cleared by doctors. There is no timetable for his return.

Bryan also added that he was cleared by a doctor in Phoenix, but he hasn't received approval from the WWE's medical staff yet because they are concerned with having him return to the ring prematurely.

The Beard said that he was recovering from a concussion that he sustained in April, shortly after WrestleMania 31.

Bryan won a seven-man Ladder Match at The Show of Shows on March 29 at Levi's Stadium in California to capture the Intercontinental Championship.

His victory was combined with John Cena's triumph of the United States Championship in a movement to make the midcard belts mean more in the WWE.

Following the injury, Bryan had to forfeit his newly won title.

It marked the second straight year Bryan was forced to give up a belt after the company's marquee event as he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXX in a Triple Threat Match with Batista and Randy Orton and then had to relinquish the title due to a neck injury.

Bryan missed the rest of 2014 due to losing strength in his arm following a surgical procedure on his neck and he returned in January of this year.

His current ailment is said to be career-threatening, and it's unknown at this time if and when he'll be back under the bright lights in a WWE ring.
