With the non-waiver MLB trade deadline just eight days away, there is plenty of interest surrounding Chicago White Sox pitcher Jeff Samardzija.
According to MLB.com, there is a lot of chatter surrounding Samardzija and he may be making his final start for the White Sox when he opposes Trevor Bauer and the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field on Thursday.
Several teams are expected to be in the hunt for his services, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants as both NL West teams look to upgrade their pitching staffs down the stretch.
The Dodgers (54-42) enter Monday atop the NL West with a 2.5-game lead over the Giants (51-44), who are also a half-game behind the Chicago Cubs (51-43) for the final NL wild-card spot.
The White Sox own a 42-50 record and sit in the cellar of the AL Central, so it is expected they'll be sellers come July 31.
With Samardzija due to become a free agent, Chicago will likely look to rent him out to a competing team that is looking to shore up its rotation in the hunt for the playoffs.
Samardzija, an All-Star last season, is having a bit of a down year with a 6-5 record and an ERA of 4.08. The right-hander owns a 1.232 WHIP and has 105 strikeouts.
The Shark has been bounced around lately as the Chicago Cubs dealt him to the Oakland Athletics in 2014 and the A's then turned around and traded him to the White Sox during the offseason.
Samardzija, 30, is 42-53 through his eight-year career between the three teams with a 3.89 ERA, a 1.267 WHIP and 843 strikeouts.
