New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert will have a song on First Lady Michelle Obama’s upcoming hip hop album aimed at lowering childhood obesity rates across the nation, according to NBC Sports' Pro Basketball Talk website.
Shumpert will team with Artie Green to perform “Pass the Rock” on the “Songs for a Healthier America” compilation track. According to XXL Magazine, also appearing on the album are such musical heavyweights as Doug E. Fresh, Jordin Sparks and Ashanti.
The 23-year-old Shumpert, who is rumored to be dating R & B singer Elle Varner and recently posted photos on social media of the two vacationing together in Aruba, is known in NBA circles as a frequent recreational rapper. In 2012, he released the song “Knicks Anthem.”
Recovering from a torn ACL, Shumpert played in just 45 regular season games for the Knicks last season, but was showing signs of his old explosiveness by the playoffs, netting 16 third-quarter points in a Game 6 playoff loss to Indiana.
Shumpert is expected to join Carmelo Anthony Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Metta World Peace, Andrea Bargnani, A’mare Stoudemire and Kenyon Martin as main cogs in the Knicks rotation this season.
As for the album, it is expected to be in stores by Sept. 30.
