Oscar Pistorius Will Be Indicted, Face Life Sentence For Shooting Death Of Girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp [PHOTOS]

Handicapped sprinter Oscar Pistorius, who inspired millions by competing as the "Blade Runner" in both the Olympics and Paralympics, will be indicted in the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, and charged with murder.

According to reports, South African prosecutors have completed their investigation of Pistorius and found reasonable evidence to take the matter to trial. Pistorius could be facing a life sentence in jail if convicted of premeditated murder, and is staring at a minimum sentence of 25 years imprisonment if found guilty.

Pistorius has not denied shooting Steenkamp to death on Valentine's Day, but he claims the entire tragedy was a misunderstanding. Pistorius says he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder in his home and shot through the bathroom door, not realizing it was Steenkamp until it was too late.

Pistorius said he feared for his safety due to the fact that he was not wearing his track blades, but rather stumps designed for around-the-house use. Under suspicion of a home invasion he fired through the door four times.

As the investigation was going on, graphic photographs of the crime scene emerged.

Previous reports indicate the prosecution's version is vastly different. Those reports say the pair argued, and Pistorius shot Steenkamp first in his bedroom, hitting her in the hip. A panicked Steenkamp then fled to the bathroom and shut the door, which Pistorius fired through four more times, eventually killing her. This evidence is supported by a spent shell casing found on the floor of Pistorius' bedroom.

Also, Steenkamp was found shot in her nightwear, which likely means she had been spending the night with Pistorius.

Steenkamp was 29 at the time of her death; she was a model for Avon and also was slated to appear on a South African reality show called Tropika Island of Treasure.
