RG3, Donovan McNabb Feud: Griffin Says McNabb 'Not An Idiot', Won't Talk With Former Eagles, Redskins QB

Earlier this offseason, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was in the headlines day after day for an assortment of reasons. Most of the times it was an update about his recovery from torn knee ligaments, but there were some other topics.

He came under fire briefly for accepting myriad wedding gifts from adoring fans, and weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Redskins moniker and whether it was racist and should be changed.

Former Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb, who knows a thing or two about media scrutiny from his days as an Eagle, made comments directed toward Griffin in an effort to guide the second-year passer.

McNabb said RGIII was doing "too much" to draw attention to himself. "But if you're coming off ACL surgery, you don't need to be having press conferences at OTAs," McNabb said. "Every week? Really? It becomes a circus, a sideshow. It takes away from the focus of what those sessions are supposed to be about: the team."

McNabb continued dispensing wisdom, saying, "Especially if Robert doesn't play at first or isn't right for the first eight weeks and it takes a while for him to become the player he was. So what if you start 2-6 or 3-5? Then everybody wonders what happened, starts thinking, 'But wait, you told us he was great a few months ago. He told us he was great.'"

Griffin was asked about McNabb's criticism and offer for a sit-down by GQ, and RGIII distanced himself from the spat. "I don't think Donovan is an idiot by any means, but right now, it's probably best that we don't talk."

Griffin's decision is probably wise. McNabb's tenure in Washington was extremely unsuccessful. He clashed with head coach Mike Shanahan and threw more interceptions (15) than touchdowns (14) in his only season in D.C.
