Boxing fans that ended May 2 with a bitter taste in their mouths after shelling out $100 to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. get by Manny Pacquiao in the "Fight of the Century" may feel free to start getting excited again. According to reports, a meeting is scheduled for Thursday to finalize a deal between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and Mexican super star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

"There are still some details that need to be fixed," said Eric Gomez, Vice President of Golden Boy Promotions. "We've been negotiating, we're missing some details. It's important to establish the date and the venue- but not only that, there are other details. We have a meeting with them Thursday, with the Cotto people and Roc Nation."

A number of venues have been rumored, including the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, AT&T Stadium in Dallas, and Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. The MGM Grand in Las Vegas is also a possibility, but a stadium may get the nod because of the added capacity. Both Cotto and Alvarez have rabid fanbases that travel well, and filling a stadium is unlikely to pose a problem.

Also undecided is the matter of WBA and IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, the mandatory challenger for Cotto's belt. Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler has previously said Golovkin would not "step-aside" to allow this fight unless both men guarantee him he will get to fight the winner. So far no guarantee has been made, yet Cotto and Alvarez are moving forward and the title is expected to be on the line.

Roc Nation Sports COO David Iskowitch said earlier this month, "We're going to what we can to make sure that he gets to keep that title and if a Canelo fight is made, which is everybody's goal, we would like that fight to be for the title."
