Much of the 2013 MLB season has revolved around steroids and looming punishments for two of the game's biggest starts, Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers and Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees.
Well, the punishments are in. Braun accepted a 65-game suspension without appeal, while A-Rod was slapped with a historically long 211-game ban which he is appealing. That appeal will likely be heard in the offseason, freeing up the controversial slugger to play for the rest of the season.
That doesn't sit right with Angels star outfielder and 2012 Rookie of the Year winner Mike Trout, who has a harsh outlook on fixing the performance enhancing drug problem spoiling the sport.
Trout, a New Jersey native speaking with New York radio station WFAN said "To me, personally, I think you should be out of the game if you get caught. It takes away from the guys that are working hard every day and doing it all-natural."
He continued: "Some people just are just trying to find that extra edge. It's tough as a guy that goes out there and plays hard every day and puts [in] 110 percent effort ... to wake up, see there's a list of guys that are on the list. It's good that MLB caught them and they're moving in the right direction with suspensions and stuff."
Trout's words carry clout in baseball, despite his tender age. He led the majors in wins above replacement last year and challenged Miguel Cabrera for the MVP award as a rookie despite Cabrera winning the coveted Triple Crown.
This season Trout's somehow improving on his 2012 campaign, currently boasting a state line of: .330, 20 home runs, 76 RBI, 26 stolen bases, .996 OPS.
It's safe to say that any pre-game chatter between Trout and A-Rod could be a tad awkward.
